Welcome to Team Guillermo Runs Chicago 2023
Sports have always been a big part of my life. Growing up I spent lots of time outdoors, enjoying the Florida sunshine and the camaraderie sports create. When it was time to choose a career, I chose the path of sports television, working at ESPN, DIRECTV and now, Major League Baseball. My sport of choice today is running. It keeps me healthy, provides a stress release, and keeps me disciplined. I have completed 16 marathons and I am lucky to be preparing to complete number 17 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. I love to run and I want to use that to support another passion of mine, Special Olympics.
I believe everyone should be able to participate in sports. Using the power of sports, Special Olympics allows people with intellectual disabilities to discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Special Olympic athletes inspire people in their communities and are working to create a more inclusive world, one that recognizes everyone's unique ability. I am running in London to raise money for Sallarulo’s Race for Champions. The funds raised through Sallarulo’s Race for Champions support Special Olympics Florida’s programs in Broward County, serving more than 6,000 athletes and their families each year. Athletes benefit from year-round sports training and competition in a variety of 19 sports and receive health services, inclusive programming, and leadership training all at no cost.
Help me make a difference and give what you can today. And if you’re in South Florida, I would encourage you to join us on Saturday, November 4 on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in Davie for the Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K. Be a part of something special!
