Wahoo's
If you are a member of this team and would like to customize this page with a special message or team photo, please contact us and we can designate you as the team captain.
The Wahoo Swim Team began over 20 years ago. It consists of ten certified coaches who are all VOLUNTEERS. We had over 95 swimmers this past season at all different levels. We have three different pools where we practice two days a week.
Special Olympics supplies the equipment, flippers, kickboard, pull buoys andankle bands, plus bathing suits and caps for competition. This is all supplied to the athletes at no cost to them or their families. We hope you will support our TEAM with a donation.
The swimmers are divided into several groups. The 25 Meter swimmers learn the freestyle and backstroke, plus they learn other strokes. Our 50 Meter swimmerspractice all four strokes, freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke. Many of the 50 Meter swimmers go on to swim the 200, 500 and 1500 meter in all strokes. We have to train on the proper strokes because at competition we are governed by FINA rules.
Before they get into the pool, they have to do dry land exercises, which includes stretching, then they may swim for two hours. Six of our swimmers went to National Games in June. Four of our swimmers did the open water at Lucky’s Lake, one did a triathlon and two did surfing.
Some of our swimmers also participate in the Ocean Swim at Pompano, Miami, Cayman Islands and Nevis / St. Kitts with a unified partner. Some of our athlete's swim on a regular USA or Master Team. As you can see, they all love the water and we are very proud of them. We are only able to do this because people donate their time and money to make this possible.
WOULD YOU BE SO KIND AS TO HELP OUR TEAM BY MAKING A DONATION.
Thank You,
Coach Ann
